There are several methods for tweeking the Linux system. One is use Preload.
What is Preload?
"Preload is an adaptive readahead daemon - it will monitor which programs you use at the most. Parts of these programs will be cached to speed up their load time. "

"Preload is an "adaptive readahead daemon" that runs in the background of your system, and observes what programs you use most often, caching them in
order to speed up application load time. By using Preload, you can put unused RAM to good work, and improve the overall performance of your desktop system."

If you have 256MB of RAM or more, you can use Preload. See how to
Open DCP ( Dreamlinux Control Panel ). Click in Services.

Use arrows to find preload. Press spacebar to enable and tab key to jump to OK. After, reboot your machine.

Try open an application, Openoffice Writer for example. Next, close. Open again. Try Open/Close several programs
and see how the system was fast.
